We have been very busy here at SonnyBoy which means we have not been publishing blog posts. We are going to attempt here to make a fresh start and add some much needed information for people who want to help animals.
We focus on mini pigs and chickens here at the sanctuary. We have a number of different types of animals on the property including equine, goats, ducks, chickens, mini pigs, commercial farm pigs, and an emu named Charli. We have a separate area for hens with just a few of our "lower-on-the-totem-pole" roosters that also includes our amazing ducks. We have a different area for roosters. Our remaining ex-fighting rooster, Sam, has a separate enclosure and home for himself and his two hens. All chicken areas are covered with predator netting and surrounded by 6' chain link fencing. Charli the Emu has a small enclosed area now off her barn stall. The goal is to increase this fenced area that is her own over the winter. We still need to purchase the predator proof netting to cover the area. This will attach to the larger chicken and duck area that she can enter during warmer weather. There will also be a shelter inside this enclosure for her to get out of the sun or rain. She will spend her nights in the barn, where she feels the safest.

SonnyBoy focused on mainly large companion animals and chickens in need of a soft landing spot. What came into focus over the first few years was the increasing need for a mini pig rescue. While there are many mini pig rescues, both on the "level" and not, throughout the United States; these rescues are being overrun by the continued onslaught of mini pigs in need of a soft landing spot. Getting messages almost daily, SonnyBoy was full fast. Other rescues face the same struggle. Having to say "no", while the mini pig suffers hurts our hearts.
We reached out to others and came together to change up what we do. Continue watching this space for updates and how YOU can be a part of the change! |
